The Collective Creation Project presents SWIMMING FOR LIFE

The Collective Creation Project is an annual cooperative effort with Magnus Theatre and local high school students. With the guidance of professional theatre staff, students from across the city come together to write a play on a social issue affecting Thunder Bay. Students are involved in all aspects of the creation of the play, from writing to acting and production. This year the students have written a play called SWIMMING FOR LIFE, which is about healthy waterways and eco systems in the Great Lakes!

Two siblings' lives are changed when they accidentally fall through the ice on Lake Superior and become fish. Can they become human again or are they stuck in their new form forever? They quickly learn that underwater life is not as carefree as they had imagined it to be. What’s worse, they discover that humans have a bad reputation in the underwater realm by most creatures. Along their journey they encounter water pollution, unfriendly fish, invasive species and the power of open-mindedness.

Puffs Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At a Certain School of Magic and Magic Friday, June 14, 2024 at 7:30 PM EDT

Magnus Theatre
×

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

Puffs is not authorized, sanctioned, licensed or endorsed by J.K Rowling, Warner Bros. or any person or company associated with the Harry Potter books, films or play.

A pathologist steals the brain of Albert Einstein; a neuropsychologist embarks on her first romance with another woman; a seizure patient forgets everything but how much he loves his girlfriend. INCOGNITO braids these mysterious stories into one breathtaking whole that asks whether memory and identity are nothing but illusions.

Come see eight local performers take to the Magnus Theatre Mainstage in the very first play to be performed by our community acting class, The Actor's Studio!

Press for Incognito, by Nick Payne:

“…tantalizing…[a] lively, self-examining drama of ideas…Mr. Payne makes it clear that science and sentimentality need not be mutually exclusive…as befits a work about the vagaries of memory, Mr. Payne’s multilayered works remain in your mind, challenging our most fundamental notions of autonomous selfhood.” —The New York Times.

“[INCOGNITO] is likely to send you out of the theatre working out the puzzle. And keep you thinking for days after…highly recommended, thought-provoking, impressive and entertaining.” —The Huffington Post.

“…at the top of its class…clever and poignant…one of [Payne’s] great gifts is the ability to poignantly meld complicated philosophic and scientific tenets with simpler human struggles.” —The Guardian (US).

All the Daze Productions presents "Oz!" The timeless “Wizard of Oz” tale has been adapted into a dazzling musical. A cyclone carries Dorothy and Toto to the magical Land of Oz. When Dorothy’s house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East, she is ecstatically thanked by the liberated Munchkins and given permission to wear the witch’s powerful silver slippers. From there, Baum’s lovable characters — rubber-legged Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tin Woodsman — join Dorothy on a journey to meet the great Oz. While on their trek, they battle the Wicked Witch of the West, who is determined to get revenge for the death of her sister.

This bright musical is charged with a bundle of wonderful songs and thrill after thrill... like the escape from the Fighting Trees and encountering the enchanted poppies. Eventually, Glinda the Good Witch helps Dorothy defeat the evil witch and her winged monkeys. The great and powerful wizard grants Dorothy’s friends their wishes and of course, helps Dorothy return to Kansas.
